ZeroC is a zero configuration blog transfer plugin. You install the ZeroC plugin on your existing blog and on blog hit “go” and sit back and wait for all the content on your old site to transfer to the new.
Ok… Ok… It is slightly more complicated then that and there is no “go” button. But, really it is so easy my dog could do it, and he eats rocks(I hope they were rocks). The new site needs to know where the old is located. And the old needs to know that the new is allowed to slurp up all its data. You might also have a desire for your blogs bytes to be secure and encrypted as they are floating through the ether of the internet.
All that is handled in one point five easy steps. ZeroC has two buttons “Wait for Transfer” and “Transfer Site”.
On the old site you click “Wait for Transfer” and it begins waiting for a connection from the new site. There are a couple things for you to know.
- There is a timeout you can set for how long the old site will wait for a transfer to begin before it stops listening. This is a security feature so you don’t forget your old site is listening for a transfer allowing some nefarious ne’er do well to stumble across it and swipe your data. If you don’t change the timeout, ZeroC will stop waiting for a transfer after 5 minutes, or after the new site attempts to transfer the site.
- ZeroC will give you a hashcode to paste into the new site which tells the new site where to connect and tells the old site the the new site is authorized to have the data. It also encrypts your data when it is out in the cloud.
On the new site you paste the hashcode from the old site and click the “Transfer Site” button.
